Vista vs XP

I'm about to send my workstation to the IT-department forreinstalling Windows while in week 6, since I will be in NewOrleans by then ;-)

I'm running XPP today using a HP nw9440, shall I go for Vista or isit just asking for trouble?

Will SW 2007 SP2.1 run under Vista?
SP 3 shuld be released in the beginning of feb. and will supportVista, but I have no experience of Vista yet.

If you don't mind being one of the people who finds all the earlybugs then go for it.
x64 is pretty buggy so I wouldn't expect vista to fare any betterearly on.

  SolidWorks for Vista is currently in Beta testing. So unless you are comfortable doing production work with Beta software......
  
  I would recommend against it until SolidWorks for Vista is released for production.

  For us were I work it will be at least a year before we consider using the Vista OS. All new computers from Dell are being purchased with the certificate to be able to upgrade to Vista in the future.
  
  There are to many unknowns with Vista to risk production deliverables because of a new OS.

    Solidworks Vista beta was only available using software open GL

    No hardware video acelerated drivers are currently available as far as I know.
    Until this is resolved I could not recomend using Vista for any production work.
    
    I would also check for driver compatibility with your printers
    I checked with Ricoh for drivers for our wide format printer for Vista and they could not give me a timescale.
    For comparison, they released the first driver for Windows XP 64bit 3 weeks ago, only 18 months late!

      I installed Vista Business a few days ago and then the current Beta version of SW 2007.
      There are still serious driver issues with VISTA (mouse, RAID) but the hardware acceleration does work on my nVidia Quadro FX 1400. The general impression is not bad, it seems to be definitely more responsive then the XP version on a newer hardware in the office with an FX 1500 (at least in the current in-context assembly of about 4000 components; drawings not checked yet).
      SW VISTA itself does not seem to be different at all from the current SP 2.2, just the interface (windows, fonts etc) is VISTA-specific which does not mean that they are better by definition.
