I'm not certain about the specific question you asked, but note that EPDM content search won't work. It depends on windows indexing which was removed in the windows 8-based server 2012. We are rolling out EPDM 2014 on server 2008 because of this.
If you check system requirements for EPDM 2014 http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/PDMSystemRequirements.html
Windows 2012 Server is supported for both the Archive server and Database Server.
I dont know how they managed the indexing question,
My question is , there are several Windows 2012 versions.. solidworks doesnt specify which ones work.
My software vendor tells me that windows 2012 server essentials would not run the EPDM services..
im a bit reluctant on this, so i need more opinions.
I have some windows server essentials and foundation lying around and would like to use them for this ( either for archive or database server) instead of having to spend an arm buying windows server standard
Unfortunately Microsoft has removed the installation option for the Microsoft Indexing service in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.
SPR 688963 "Provide support for 'Microsoft Search Server Express' for full text content search since Indexing Service is removed in Windows 8 and Windows 2012
This is not resolved.
good news, SolidWorks development listened to us!
I received the follwing email last week...
