Hi everyone,
I just resently started using the shett steel tab, I have learned how to roll a flat sheet into a cylinder but the only joint that I can get is a butt joint, is there any way to over lap the two joinging edges of the cylinder, I am looking to make it a lap joint. If someone could guide me in the right direction or can show me how to do this it would be greatly appreciated.
Here is an example of one way to do this.

What version of SolidWorks do you have? Maybe someone can do an example in that version for you.

The method would be dependent on how you want the part to be. For e.g. you can draw a spiral using the helix tool, copy that profile and then simply use loft that to get an overlapped joint OR use the method suggested by Jeff.
Attached picture shows two types. Which of one is your need?
I am interested in both examples ,but the first is probably more of what I am looking for.
It's like you read my mind. Can you give me a more detailed example of how to do this of a file with an example for 2011 x64 version.
Sorry to say that I don't have SW2011 installed but I'll try to make some videos for you showing both the methods.

see att-prt file, it will convert to SW2011 when you open and save it

Hi Kelef Man I tried drawing the original example you posted but with just the round overlap where you used the helix/spiral command on, but I get stuck when I try to do a lofted bend because it tells me to "only lines and arcs can be used...".
Another problem I am having is that when I try to make a surface plane like in your example it turns into a solid grey like the model.
Basically what I wanted to ask you was if you could give me a step by step or what would be best is a video on how you did this.
I would be very grateful if you could help.

your ULed file seems OK in SW15- see below scrnsht
flat pattern works and no errors-
the original posted SW10 file also works fine in SW15
I can't produce vidz for this site- come out way too big,
and as this is an old thread maybe start a new one
Deepak is the man for vidz- compact and precise,
but basically, I think you've got it
