Can anyone please let me know how to create a sheet metal hood similar to the attached image?
If this is used in HVAC system what about using a pittburgh flange, in the
jpeg it shows right side of wrapper before inserting side and left side shows
after side is inserted and seam is tapped closed with a mallet.
You'll either have to create it as a multi-body sheetmetal part or as a formed sheetmetal part.
I am interested in formed sheet metal part. Can you please show me how to do it?
Go through the tutorials on sheet metal and forming. That should give you a good start.
More information is needed if you want someone to do this design for you.
Attach the *.sldprt file here of what you have attempted so far (this is a pretty simple design for anyone who has had training or gone through the tutorials.
Attached please find the part I modeled using sheet metal. But apprarently there is a connection issue between the side panels and top hood, and I don't know if there is a way to create it via formed sheet metal.
You are not planning make that out of a single piece of sheet metal? That would be a huge and expensive die?
Break up into pieces and use the standard SolidWorks sheet metal tools.
Go through the Sheet Metal tutorial under the SolidWorks help if you haven't already.
I think I modeled it by 3 pieces, but one question: how to connect the side panle with the top hood?
Welding would be the most appropriate method. Or am I misunderstanding the question?
how to weld a galvanized sheet metal...
With a respirator and plenty of ventilation. This is nothing new...but you have to use a respirator or you will get deathly sick Nothing to joke around with.
Then, you can purchase a product called Cold Galvanizing Spray: (http://https://www.google.com/#q=cold+galvanizing+paint) to cover the affected areas.
Thanks for the suggestions. But, OK, I ask if there is an alternative design to avoid welding, or usually how you guys design a hood like this using sheet metal functions.
Add tabs and rivet is an alternative.
Talk with the company you plan to have make the hood for you. They can offer suggestions for the design.
Look at it this way. Take a sheet of paper and try folding the paper into the shape you want without cutting the paper? How did that work for you?
