For example, I go into system options>Document properties tab than set the Detailining - Shaded cosmetic threads.
When close SW and reopen , the setting is lost.
Is there another setting somewhere else that resets everything back to default?

Edwin,
Settings in the Document Properties tab only apply to the document that you have open. Set them up the way you want them and then save the document as a Template. Then the new parts, assemblies or drawings that you open up with the new templates will have the options set the way you want them.
