Hi, how to automaticly insert sheet format size into BOM?
I'm afraid I don't understand your question. Why would sheet size be included in a BOM? The BOM (Bill of Materials) is a list of components in an assembly. Do you mean title block instead of BOM? If you do mean that, then you could have a note in your title block that's linked to a custom property to call that out. That information could be saved to your drawing template and would be accurate as long as your don't change sheet sizes. If you change sizes you would need to enter the new size in your drawing's custom properties.
I was also looking for a way to do this. Our approved master copy of our drawings are still hard copies which we file by sheet size, therfore we show the sheet size of the sub-assy drawings in the BOM.
Currently we use a custom property in the part/sub-assy called "S.S." (Sheet Size) to display the sheet size in the BOM - where the user manually enters the sheet size. We do this because the BOM's look at the part files which make up the assy, not the drawings. What I'd like to do is have the Sheet Size from the drawing templates drive this custom property in our BOM's. So the question is how do I get a part/subassembly in an assy to reference its drawing and pull the custom property "S.S." (in my case)?
There isn't a way to keep them parametrically linked (at least, none that I know of). But you could write a macro that opens each file in a BOM and sets a custom property to match the drawing size.
I am curious as to why the BOM needs to show the sheet size though. As Glen mentioned, can it not simply be shown on the drawing's title block?
Another option would be to create separate BOM templates for each sheet size and just have an extra row with a note showing the size. You would just need to make sure you select the correct template when adding it to the drawing.
We show the sheet size on our BOM's so the master (hard copy filed in our print room by sheet size) can be pulled, copied, and issued to Manufacturing.
I'm not sure I folllow your second option. We do have an extra row in our BOM's showing the sheet size of the parts and sub's that make up the assy (see my scrren shot above)...but this is is entered manually.
So, are you saying that your overall assembly drawing lists the sheet sizes for the detail drawings of each item in the BOM? I can see why that could be useful when looking for the hardcopies.
The second option I mentioned was more for Karolis since his picture just showed the sheet size as a note under the BOM.
