Im having real difficulty recreating something in Sheetmetal from an IGES file I recieved, can anyone shed any light on a best way to create the 4; for lack of a better description, Budgie Beaks in the attached file. I would imagine and prefer forming tools so I can reuse easily. Thanks in advance.
Solidworks is version is 2011.
Looks like a small louver of sorts. You can make a forming tool for this by modeling the inside shape along with the sharp edge that will be used to shear the opening. There are some special requirements to creating a forming tool but a way to learn might be to view/edit an existing louver. Just remember that 'any' radius created by the forming tool must be realistic. The triangular sharp edge nearest the flat plane of the example shown resulting from the far side bend must not be zero or less. That is, if your material is .050 thick, the outside radius of your forming tool must be .055 in that triangular area. I most always use ,005 as an inside radius when a sharp is called for in sheet metal. A zero or less radius is a common cause for a tool failing to work, except on cut/slit edges.
