Does Solidworks and the EPDM allow you to have a different drawing for each config? If so how do you assign drawing number in EPDM?
yes, you CAN have different drawings for different configs, but you really shouldn't. EPDM epdm controls revs at the file level, so having configs at diferent revs requires some hefty work arounds.
and there are many ways to assign drawing numbers in EPDM - that would depend on your specific setup and options.
Implementing EPDM but also redesigning 90% of are designs so this is a chance to start over with part numbering and drawings. Thinking about not importing existing designs. What would be consider a common way to number parts and drawings? Now we have multiple configs with each having its own drawing.
Why do you say you really shouldn't? And how would you do this different?
because of the file level revision control I mentioned.
there are 2 ways I would do this;
1. put all of the configs in one drawing - either as separate sheets or as a table.
2. separate the configs out to individual part files, each with its own drawing.
Jeremy I really appreciate the input thank you very much. I would like to get feedback on one other thing if you will. As mentioned above we have an opportunity to change how we are managing our data and part numbers. We have a lot of details there are 20 or more configs and drawings which are very useful on similar products. We send those drawings to our laser so I can’t create a tabulated drawing and I don’t think we want to send the laser operator a 20 sheet drawing and hope he uses the right print out of it. Any ideas?
I would be surprised if they programmed directly from a SW drawing - most of those softwares use DXF/DWG as inputs. If that is the case, you could send the DXF/DWG of the sheet in question to get the part made.
or if you go with separate files, replace component is almost as fast as switching configs.
Thanks Jeremy you are correct about the DWG's but my issue with that is we are feeding info into are ERP and its handling the requisition of the sheets. I believe we may have to use the separate file method. Once again thanks for the responses.
