yes this is a good gaming card. i believe it would run
solidworkshowever it will probably be glitchy. i would trade it in
for anvidia Quadro fx. thats just me though
Considering its the same card (GPU) as the Quadro 5500 it
would beawesome with SW. But to do so youd need to firmware
hack itto the Quadro. It will work well, no multiple windows
openbut would work ok.
Its the drivers that limit the performance not the
hardware.

this is true however the only problem with this is that you
wouldvoid any warranty you had with your video card by hacking
thefirmware software regardless if the software was written by
thesame manufacturer. the card was not made to be a
quadrohence the name GeForce 8800GTX.
from page 4 it states: "
six memory partitions exist on a GeForce 8800 GTX GPU. Each of
these provides a 64-bit interface to memory, yielding a 384-bit
combined interface width."

More information can be found on the8800GTX/GTS at:

page 4 it states: "

though!
Memory would have to be an integer multiple of
384-bit... in this case 2.....
I'm using the 8800 GTS at home on personal projects and
completely amazed by the card. I know it's not an Open_GL certified
card but it sure does well. I have opened large assemblies with
lots of features without any lag or problems that I can see. This
is a good card if you want to be able to run Solidworks and then
switch over to some intense gaming in the same seating.

It will not give Realview, and it is not posible
to"firmware"-hack this one to a Quadro FX, as far as I
canunderstand. It seems like Nvidia have made some
hardwaredifferences between the two.
Price is about 15-25% of equal ~ Quad FX 4600.
