    AMD processors

    Ivan Collins

I have searched the forums and don't see anyone posting any benchmark simulation numbers for a machine built up with AMD processors.  I thinking about building another machine specifically for crunching simulation studies and it appears that having multiple processors with multiple cores is the way to go.  The AMD processors for server boards appear to take overclocking and Iiquid cooling better than the intel chips and are a lot cheaper. I know the whole computer build topic has probably been beat to death but I couldn't seem to find specifically much about the AMD multi processor setup.  Any thoughts?

"multiple processors with multiple cores is the way to go" > can you give me an example where you saw this? what you should be seeing is that the ideal setup is the fastest individual core is the key to speed in simulation.

as for amd vs intel, you don't really need a simulation specific benchmark, if one CPU is faster than another (especially if you look at single thread processing), go with that one regardless of brand. if a specific brand has other features that you want (like overclocking..etc), go for it. but i think most people buy based on price vs perf
