We are having problems with losing ownership of parts when we
close down Solidworks. For instance, when we create a new file and
save it to our local drive and then close solidworks without
checking it in, the file becomes read-only. It doesn't exist
antwhere on the vault and was created new. I can't figure out if
this is a PDMWorks or Solidworks setting problem. We are running
Solidworks 2007 sp2.0 and PDMWork group 2007 sp2.0.
none the less, do you use lifecycles?
if no, then this is a random bug.
i tried to document but have had zero luck.
I tracked down to the fact the he had named his file somethinggeneric like BRACKET, and there was a file named BRACKET already inthe vault. The files on his local drive were being compared to thefiles in the vault. When he took ownership of the file namedBRACKET in the vault his local file was no longer read only.
Our work around is not to save any files with generic names andinstead assign each file a unique part number.
I am not sure if this is the same thing you are experiencing but itmight help you.
Sorry for the delay in responding. I have not personally seen this issue, however, I tend to work alone on my computer. I would please ask ALL customers who are experiencing this problem to ask your VAR to open a service request (SR).
Once it can be verified by our support folks we can address.
Thanks,
Joy
I noticed, that with SW-2007 SP-2.2 whenever I check out parts (I ask for "take ownership) all parts, assemblies, drawings are read only. Vault is showing me that I own parts, assemblies, drawings. Any ideas ?.
Best regards

I think I had found the problem. Check if in your "System Options" --> "External References" "Open referenced documents with read-only access" is checked. Mine was and when I unchecked the problem is gone. I worked on tihs with my VAR "CADDEdge" and it was thier suggestion to change this setting. It worked for me.
