I have a part that i am having trouble trying to convert to sheet metal i need to flatten it out and it will be soldered at the corners any sugestions? attached is the file
The Swept Flange tool should be capable of creating the hemmed part. It's basically a sweep but creates a flattenable sheet metal feature.
I could not get your model to work...I think it may be because the large radius isnt constant. So, I threw the attached model together with some random numbers just to demonstrate how I would approach this. It's a bit tedius, but effective. Your mileage may vary....
Here is my attempt at your part. To flatten the part right click on Flat-Pattern1 and select unsuppress. Tom
Couple of things...
Using the sheet metal module from the start is often easier than trying to convert.
The sheet metal module does not work with splines. They cannot accurately be formed on a press.
Thank you i am going to try this it looks like it should work. all were helpfull. im not the best in sheet metal. I have another question maybe you would know i have alot of parts that have closed hems on the edges basicly folded over lets say 1/8th inch. im strugeling doing that with round parts though? basicly you would take your cut sheet fold the edge over than curve it

yes this part will be forged but we need flat pattern because we get all of out parts cut out on a laser first

i got one for you though.
so when i try to "swept flange" this it will not let me because the two dimensions both read .25"....But if i change one of them to .249" it will work i had about 6 diffrent parts of diffrent shapes and did the swept flange and had this same problem with all of them?
i cant figure out why it is doing that?

it worked when i did a hem the way you did yours in that dirrection but when i hem it to the outside i get this problem
Typically, parts of this nature are forged, but if you want to make it using the sheet metal tools, it can be done pretty easily with a miter flange.
I created this part and then used the flex feature. I am not real familiar with this command but you might get the result you need. I had to play with this a bit to get what I have shown. Maybe look at the tutorial to get more information on it. Tom
Another thought you might be able to create the end shape and use a sweep to get what you need. not a true sheet metal part though for unfolding.
