Speedpack or Defeature?

We work with several OEM's and have been working on sharing models for spaceclaims on their systems for factory installs and model-year changes.  Since they work in ProE and I believe SolidEdge, we have to send step files.  I was trying to push the use of Defeature, but the models would crash (over the network w/o PDM).  Someone mentioned Speedpack and has been advocating using that to speed up the process of sending out files.

I haven't dug too deeply into it, but I'm concerned that creating a Step file from a Speedpack configuration isn't the way to go.  Does anyone know if a 'simplified' speedpack SolidWorks file, saved as a step file, will still be simplified by the end user when they import the step file into their native 3D Cad environment?

Thanks
