Hi David, good question. My understanding is axial forces are the axial forces in the bolt. The bolt is just a simplified to a beam in the end so it is basically the same as the axial force in a beam. Bending force is a separate output.
Maybe to go deeper, what are you trying to do with the data, what are you trying to compare it to, what are you concerned with? My suggestion would be to setup a known condition and see what you get for comparison. Best way to test it.
Thanks Jared, my VAR got back to me with the same answer. The axial forces are measured at the neutral axis just like a beam.
I'm looking at fatigue in bolts. I've made an excel spreadsheet to take in the bolt load data from Swx and calculate the mean and alternating stresses. Just wanted to confirm that the axial and bending loads were uncoupled.
