What is the best way to draw a shade sail that curves between fixing points that vary in level (so where it fixes to the columns are at different heights to one another). See attached plan view
Here's my shade.
Although I don't use surfaces as much as I should, I would think it would help here. Try to create a surface using the XYZ points at the "tie" points possibly using spline curves. Don't worry too much about the top view until near the end, then draw the top view as a projected spline surface looking like the top view. This surface could be used to trim the "sail" surface. No guarantees though
Here is an one way of doing it. A 3D sketch sets the position of the tops of the support poles, then additional 3D sketches creates the two different surfaces.
Really appreciate that Mark, the curves you've made are exactly what I'm looking for. Just for future reference, how did you acheive it? It looks to me like you have created three new planes using the columns as reference points, sketched the curves between the columns (3 point arc?), filled the surface and then mirrored it... Any specifics would be fantastic
