We loose our paper space sometimes when making hi res output

Two illustrators here, been with composer for about 6 months.

We've noticed on ocasion that our paper space won't re-appear after making a tif (for example).

Typically when making a tif the paper space goes away, then comes back after the tif has been made. on several ocasions, the paper space won't come back. There seems to be no choice except to get out of composer and open again, wait 15 minutes for it to render to line art again (large models) . as you can imagine, productivity suffers.

do our computers need more juice, or is there a solution we don't know about?

Doug,

Does this happen when exporting in other file types from High Resolution Image or just the .tif image? How large of assemblies are you talking about? You may also want to add your computer specs so we can review those also.

  I may check all the different outputs, so it will take a bit of time.
  Regardless, our required spec for the client is tif output, so that can't change easily.
  Our typical paper space is only 2"x3"- we supply art driven instructions to the client
  the smg model size is about 12mg
  I'm on a windows 64 computer

    OK, what is your native file type Solidworks, Catia etc? Areyou using .smg extension for your Composer files or another extension? Can you tell me a rough estimate of parts in the assembly. I have several files with over 500 parts in an assembly and I don't come close to 12mb.
    
    Since these are for a client are you receiving native file types to convert or is your client converting these to Composer files for you?

      The native is pro-e, sometimes we get .stp from them.
      we convert to smg here
      typical part count of a model is huge and I'm not sure how to find that out specifically in composer. Probably 70 sub assemblies with sub assemblies under those. They are models of diesel engines. we typically use the entire engine model when doing a procedure.

        Yeah that is going to be a huge file type. I would check what John mentioned also. If you are getting 15 minute rebuild time I am going to guess you going to need a better system. If non of these checks work I would get with your IT department and your VAR to see about upping your computer specs.

Doug, what do you have set for your Hardware Support, under Application Preferences? Depending on your video card, I've seen similar issues. On board video cards have limitations and may state Open GL, but usually don't cut the mustard.

I have a Quadro 600 video card. Composer is set to run with Open GL support and the advanced button is checked.
