Is it just me or was this feature taken away when upgrading from 2013 to 2014? I used this A TON on a daily basis. I hope I am just missing something and that this feature has not been taken out
If you've never done anything in the registry, then please be careful and don't do anything that isn't mentioned below - you could render your computer useless!!!
You will lose all of your system Settings (File Locations for instance) and will have to reset those.
Nope, still there and works fine. Is your's missing?
Yeah I dont have that option. What in the world?
Select the Customize Menu option at the bottom of the list and see if the Open option has been deselected.
See the attached bottom picture of the above post.
Got me on that one. I would contact your VAR and get them to report to SolidWorks or try a Repair installation without anti-virus running just in case. This is not one of those settings things to turn on/off. It's always there.
There may be some kind of glitch going on with BOM's. Someone else had a problem with not having an option to split: https://forum.solidworks.com/message/390208#390208.
Is that only with this drawing where this is happening, or is it happening with all of them? Also, is this a document that was originally done with SW2013 or new with SW2014?
It's doing it on all drawings. On drawings that were originally 2013 and converted to 2014. Also on brand new 2014 drawings. Same issue.
I am using my own BOM template that was created in 2013. That could be the source of this. I'll look into it.
I wouldn't think the template would affect it, but who knows? If that doesn't work, you might think about un-installing and re-installing SW2014.
Ughhhh i hope that's not the case. I have SW 2013 SP0 CD. Which means I'll have to download 2013 SP5 then download 2014 SP0... this could take half of the business day.
Maybe just do that with SW2014 and leave SW2013 alone first?
Download overnight or weekend.
Try a registry reset first.
Don't uninstall just yet. Try the Safe Mode in the Rx tool if you want a registry reset test. This will by-pass your registry just in case there's a problem there. If it works, then you can do a simple registry rename.
Start > Programs > SolidWorks > SolidWorks Tools > SolidWorks Rx
Booting SW in Safe Mode (Bypassing registry/tools/options) makes that feature work. Even using my 2013 custom template. I have never done a registry reset. Any guidance?
Ok finally figured this one out. Or fixed it but not 100% sure which option disabled this feature.
I erased out the SolidWorks registry as directed above, so SolidWorks recreated a new registry next time I booted it. The Open Part option came back with this registry reset.
However when I ran Copy Settings Wizard to restore all my old keyboard shortcuts and toolbars and menu customizations.. the option disappeared again. So I test trialed to see whether its my Shortcuts, Toolbar, or Menu customizations that make it disappear and in the end it was my Menu Customization that makes the Open Part feature disappear.
Now i couldn't figure out which "menu customization" makes it disappear. But all in all, I did registry restore, restored my keyboard shortcuts and toolbar customizations... and i'm a happy camper.
Thank you for teaching me how to reset registry. Finally have this super useful feature back.
I don't mean to bring this back from the dead, but there is a much simpler solution than deleting the registry for SolidWorks settings.
You may be correct because I did uncheck the Recent Commands before I did the SolidWorks registry reset. I never used that "Recent Commands" feature so I unchecked it from cluttering my context menues and did not notice that it was the reason that caused my Open Part to disappear. Thanks for the find!
