Does Solidworks 2013 have a "bounding box" feature to easily determine overall stock size?
Welcome to the forum
There is a bounding box feature available in 2013
Thank You George.
There are macros available in this forum to create the bounding box and add propertis to the part.
The only disadvantage is, it won't update automatically. need to run macro again if there is any change to the original part.
The bounding box feature you are referring to is for weldments. Have you experimenting with it to see if it works on irregular shaped imported parts? It seems that it would not work, since you must first have a "cut list" in order to even be able to create the "bounding box".
I think it works with any parts
Please see this video from Alin
Hope this helps
Looks like the bounding box does not allow for any way of controlling the orientation of the box, it just automatically comes up with the smallest possible box. SW needs to make it possible/optional for the user to define the orientation of the bounding box. It's a start, but it's only a start and currently it is not very usable for many of use that have been wanting this fuctionality.
If you right click on the folder that contains the bounding box, there is a command called Edit Bounding Box that allows you to reorient the bounding box by selecting a new reference plane.
John, Doug, Matt,
Thanks for all the help. Works great!
Moreover, you can re-orient the part as per the bounding box, in order to minimize waste when machining.
