tool box custom properties

Ok, I'm cornfused..

 

I need to create a low-head cap screw for a design, and want to add to the toolbox.  Can I use the toolbox setup to do this?  I thought maybe I could make a copy of the _ai file and change it directly to what I need, but the copied file doesn't show up in toolbox.  I've been reading different posts regarding the custom properties and the toolbox setup but am more confused than when I started.

 

The other question, if successful in adding the custom fastener, would smart fasteners recongnize it or would I have to add the new fastener manuall to the assy?

Correct Answer

Joe,

 

If you are using a standalone toolbox, it is easy to add a custom fastener into an existing one.

In this case, you are adding a Low Head cap screw, which is similar to the regular cap screw, except the head thickness and the socket.

 

Make sure you make a backup of your toolbox database file before you make any changes.

 

  • Open your toolbox configuration, go to the corresponding standard and type
  • Click on "Add new size" in each marked category and insert proper values (give a different name for the size) and fill in rest of the columns
  • Repeat this for Length and Thread Data (make sure you give the correct values to match the thread and type of screw)
  • Make the same changes to the correspoding Hole Wizard Standards.
  • Save

Now open the assembly file

Try to insert the toolbox part and see if it works

If you have a smart feature, you can try inserting smart fasteners
