Gentlemen & Ladies,

It is common practice (and I have looked heavily throught the forum on this), that the majority say to create a machined part from a casting is to model the casting first and then move onto the second stage/process by creating the machined model from the casting. As some of you already know, this can be tackled in several methods when using SW e.g configurations, inserting part within a part (all dependant of the work flow required by the designer/company).

So here is what I would to here from the SW users out there across the globe....

If you were given a model that was in the final stage i.e. machined only and the request was to produce the casting model from the machined model, how would you go about it? Knowing already the machine allowance, draft angles etc is it a case of adding features to where the material has to be removed or look at the model and ask could some machining be removed and cast instead?

Some designs/designers have approached me with their assemblies and the components are produced/detailed in the end stage only.

Your thoughts on this is gratefully appreciated.

With thanks in advance....Brian
