I know about quickpress. Only had sw 2 months, it needs to
prove itself before I dump another $8K. I’ve done strips by
pattern cuts and forms in a single part, not with SW though. Many
of my parts will be too complicated to do that I think. Using
configs in assy to build strips is very…VERY good. I just
need to find a way to get rid of these unwanted edges.
Thanks again AB.
why you have to work on assembly ?
wouldnt' be simplier to start in a single part ?
ok i've seen you have to design progressive sheet metal mold
have you seen or tried 3dquickpress for solidworks
maybe it's worth of investment in your job

I was surprised that the sheet metal would combine. It did,
sort of. The jpg shows where the faces between the form edges
stopped merging and stayed separate. Browser shows 1 body.
ALL the form edges, in all the parts, show in the drawing. So
maybe there is a switch to turn off form edges? I got a lot to
learn about drawings.
And the part isn’t associative. After reading help I
see what saveas part is for. Using configs to build strips is
great, but it will be a pita to manually maintain a separate part
just for the drawing.
Short question: how to make a single part from an assy?
Long version: making a progressive sheet metal strip by
assembling different configs of 2 parts, the actual part and a
scrap part. The parts are arrayed the progression of the strip and
the configs are changed to show the parts state at each station.
This works very well.
In real life though the assy is a single piece. The problem
is making a drawing of the strip, it shows all the edges and bend
lines that in real life should be single continuous strip of steel.
See .jpg
You see the shaded model with the edges off. That’s all
I want to see in the drawing. What I need is a combine feature in
the assy. In Inventor, you can derive an assy into a single part.
What am I missing?
Thanks again AB.
