I know I can use the Width Mate in Advanced Mate option to add a mate between the flat side of a slot and a hole but how do I center the hole in the slot between the two Arcs of the slot? What is the best mate option to use rather than add a distance mate or adding extra features like planes etc?

This has been asked many times, so search around the forums. There are many ways to do this. Probably easiest way at this time (without seeing your assembly) would be to use a sketch point at the center of your slot and the temporary axis of the hole.

If your slots were created using the Slot tool on the Sketch toolbar, then when you turn on temporary axes there should be one at the center of the slot. You can use a concentric mate between this temporary axis and your hole. Then you won't need the Width Mate.

2014 has a new mate for slot features that address this issue.
Slots are added to the Hole Wizard in SW2014 in addition to the slot sketch feature. With that comes some very nice new options for mating.
Monday we will all be able to talk about it in more detail.
