Welcome to the forum. It's hard to say exactly what the problem is without seeing your part. If the path sketch is a complete circle, I don't believe you can use the Structural Shape function. It needs a start and end point. If that's not the case, please explain further, or post your part. Click on "Use advanced editor" at top right to post files.

thanks for the promt response, i have just tried the revolve feature and this does the trick! i did also draw a part circle (stopping just short of a complete one) and the structural member did work, so your comment about the start and end point is correct.
