Replacing part in drawing file to up revision

    Chris Disalvatore

I need to modify a part that is tied to a drawing file that already has an extensive ammount of dimensioning and tolerancing. Looking for the best way to replace the part file with a modified copy, and also maintain the previous revision of the drawing file.

Chris, the best way to maintain dimensional links when replacing a drawing component is to replace it with a part that's a modified version of the one the drawing originally referenced.  When modifying a component towards this end, you need to leave in-tact as much of the original geometry as you can.  If your drawing uses model dimensions then you need to preserve as many of those in your modified part as possible.
