Is it possible to extend a surface in a part file that has been generated from a step?
oh, and no need to delete the face to make it a suface body first. move face works fine on solid bodies.
I believe it is, as I think I have done it in the past. The results may not be what you want, thought. Extending surfaces is a hit and miss process. I always try to Untrim before I try Extend, as Untrim seems to be more stable.
I have a detail that has been generated using a Rittal box where what I want to do is extend the depth of the box 4". I am using a standard Rittal box, and want to simplify the process of detail generation by extending the current solid instead of integrating the several features into a new step. I am not having much success in stretching the depth of the box.
Yes you should be able to extend a step part file. You need to make the "solid" model into a "surface" model by deleting any face - keep the deleted face away from where you want to extend. Next "move face" by going to Insert / face / move and "translate" by 4". Now use the "filled surface" command to fill the previously deleted face, making sure you tick "merge result" and "try to form a solid". You should now have a solid part again. Good luck.
Try using the Move Face command.
The way the solid has been modeled is with a fillet between the sides and back. I tried deleting the fillets to create the surface and can successfully move it, but can not fill surface because there is no intersection. Is there a way to blend these two non-intersecting surfaces?
can you post the file?
Thank you for taking a look at this!!!!
I am on 2012 so I won't bother posting the file.
it is imprtant to select all of the faces that will be moving
and then make sure your are using the translate option and select the distance you want the faces to move.
Thank you so much Jeremy!!!! That worked beautifully.
