Hi, I've been using tips from the forum for some time (thanks!!) but i've never posted a question but this has been bothering me for some time so I would appreciate any help you kind folks could offer.

At my current company, critical dimensions on the drawings are denoted by a star (ASCII 9733). The problem is as follows:

  • I can add an unattached note to the drawing that has the ASCII star like this:

     Star Note.JPG

  • I can type the ASCII symbol into the text box of the drawing, but the star shows up as a question mark on the dimension:

  • Or, I can merge the dimension and the note together which gives me the star below the dimension (which is not acceptable, it must be to the left or right of the critical dimension):

After the note/dimension merge takes place, the symbol is replaced in the dimension text box as a "?" and can't be copied or pasted into any other position and be displayed as the ASCII star on the drawing.

What's wierd is that one guy in the department can type Alt+9733 in the Dimension Text box and it works exactly like it should but we can't figure out what's different about his computer and/or settings.  Drawings that he creates look like this:

Correct.JPG

So in the end, there are two questions that I'm asking: 1.) how do I type the ASCII code into the Dimension Text box so that it shows up on the drawing correctly and 2.) How do I attach a note (e.g. the ASCII character) to the dimension in any location I choose (e.g. right, left, top or bottom) so it stays associated with the dimension so that when I move the dimension or the view, the note follows along?

Thanks in advance for your help!
