I would like to show the deflection of foam rubber gasketing material when assembled. Is there a discussion of that here?
Charles, SolidWorks isn't generally that kind of modeller although it does have a couple of tools that you might be able to use towards that end.
What does your gakset look like in its free state and how do you want to deform it?
The assembly is actually very simple: two flat surfaces each with a rectangular cross-section gasket attached. The two free faces of the gasket s contact each other whtn the flats assemble. I wanted to show that the gasket deforms/compresses as the two flat surfaces get closer to one another.
The way I would normally handle this type of situation would be to have two configurations of the gaskets, one for the free condition and one for the installed condition.
You can define the gasket in-context so that the thickness is defined by the gap bewteen the two mating parts. I've even done this with an arc for the edge so it looks more realistic.
The only problem with this scheme is that if you separate the two bodies farther than the thickness of the gasket it won't show a gap.
