A drawing for a part family often is "tabled" where the varying dimension is listed, associated with its particular part number. How can this be done in a SolidWorks drawing?
configurations + design tables + insert design table into drawing
I think I'm not being clear. What I'm interested in is a general table that includes configuration specific properties as values and I want those values for all configurations. There would be perhaps only two columns, the configuration name and a dimension.
Mike, that sounds like what Jeremy is describing.
Open your family part, insert a design table, letting it auto-populate, format the table the way you want it to appear in the drawing, save the part, insert the design table into your drawing.
How is that not what you want?
The dimension for the table in the drawing is a driven dimension. I believe data that goes into a design table must be driving.
I'm trying to make this work with the design table but I find problems beyond aesthetic. Sometimes there is an asterisk in front the value which I believe tells me it has not been updated in SW probably because its a reference dimension. Hopefully, the image makes it clear.
I have never put the ref dim into a property and then put the property into the table - also never seen that asterisk in a DT.
have you tried just putting the dim into the table?
This is a design table. I think of no way to do that other than to assign it to another variable. I understood from your previous reply that you understood how it might work otherwise. Please elaborate.
I can deal with the asterisk character itself in Excel but if it means the number shown is not necessarily correct then I have to force all configurations to update. Activating each configuration is not an option as there are subject to be many, many configurations.
just now I an not getting driven dims to update correctly in a DT.
why can't you use a driving Dim?
This is the as-assembled dimension which is a sum of component dimensions. It is for-reference-only and used only to identify the assembly.
