How to prevent empty fields in a variable (part number) of a file?
I would like to do as a condition in the workflow but I do not know the syntax
Maybe there are some solutions. If your users fill the part number in file data card, and you know how many characters must be in part numbers, you can restrict the max and min numbers in file data card design.
Depending on which version of pdm you use, you can use the new task "Design checker".
Neither of these solutions can provide a check of correctness of part number.
Currently I am using epdm 2013, what I want is to force the designers fill the data corresponding to the part number.
They fill the data in the SolidWorks enviroment.
Click on the comparison box and selext text not equal.
This will not allow the file to move to the next state unless this field has "something" in it.
Thank for your answer,
What annotation should I put in the value column?
Put nothing in the value column, if you want that variable to have something in it before moving to the next state.
I would add a warning message associated with this condition, How can I do this?
Unfortunately there is not a way to add a warning message about this thru the workflow. If the user tries to change state they will get a generic, conditions have not been met.
You can create a dispatch, that checks the variables before they transition and it could have a custom message. We use this for our workflows to make sure users fill in variables on their datacards. And it works 90% of the time, sometimes the dispatch does not fire.
Can I exclude files with extension SLDDRW (drawings) of the conditions?
Yes you can exclude drawings.
Use filepath not equal to %.slddrw
This will not allow drawings to go thru this transition. You will then need to create another transition for drawings.
