Workgroup PDM service can't access start with Vault on Network Drive

Hello!

We decided to start using the workgroup PDM for our CAD machines. The way it works is that 2 CAD machines are both connected to a network Synology HDD and one of the CAD machines has PDM Admin tool installed on it. I've tried putting the VaultData folder on the C:\ drive and everything worked fine. I then tried putting it on the mapped network drive and the service won't start. I changed the registry keys to "\\192.186.1.59\public\shared documents\VaultData" but that didn't work. I am also unable to navigate to that network drive during the installation process. Changing registry keys to "Z:\shared documents\VaultData", with Z:\ being the maped network drive, didn't help either. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

I guess you installed the workgoup PDM sever on a local computer and tried to link it to the Vault on the server - if so, it's not going to work
Make sure the Workgoup PDM server is also installed on the server

  Thank you for your reply. Sorry if my questions will sound stupid, but I have absolutely no experience in setting up network servers. The way we want the PCs to be set up is to have the both connected to an extrernal drive via network. There is no server, just a network drive and 2 PCs connected to it.
  
  Now I run my installation from the pdmwserver folder (in my main SolidWork installation folder). This installation allows me to only choose the location of the Vault and automatically installs all of the server files to my local drive. I can't seem to be able to choose the location of the server installation (if I understand it right). When choosing the location folder I also can't find the network drive for some reason, so the way I tried doing it is by giving the installer the UNC location of the netword drive folder (the one in the first message). As a result, the pdmw service doesn't seem to be able to start.
  
  Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    Ok now I understand what you tried to do
    The PDM admin can be installed and run on any local machine but the PDM server must be in a "host" local machine - This machine must be on all the time so other machines can access to it. Your IT guys can help you with this

      Thank you for your help! I seem to have figured that out. I have all of the server files installed on my host machine. If I put vault on that very same machine, it works perfectly. I can't, however, put the vault on the network drive. As soon as I do that, the workgroup pdm service (in computer management) can't start. I looked on the SW tutorials and it said, that choosing the path in a UNC format should solve the issue. It, however, doesn't. Any idea what could be causing the issues?

        Usually this is down to permissions. The account/ user the service runs under needs permissions to access the folder you have stored the vault in. Although your method of running pdm is not supported/tested i have been able to get it to work for people in hte past
        
        You need to check what user the service is running under using admin tools -> Services (right click on the workgroup pdm service -> properties) you can either change the user it runs under or add that user to the folder permissions of the vault data folder on the other system

        I did experiece some dificulites to have the PDM server and Vault on diff. servers. it works but caused us a lot of problems, Soon we moved the Vault and PDM server to the same machine. All problems was gone away. So I think you'd better move the Vault to the host machine
