Is it possible in Solidworks Simulation to set up a batch file to run multiple FEA models one after another one?
If yes, could someone tell me how?
Someone Asked this in the last week or 2.
There is a run all command for each part. You can run it on multiple files at the same time.
Or look at the task scheduler.
My situation is: I have set up multiple models in different files for different designs. so it would be nice if I can put them in a queue so those models can be solved one after another one. This function is very helpful during the weekend or vacation time. Some softwares, such as Pro/Mechanica, has an easy way to do that. ANSYS can do something similar too.
I tried the run all command, but it seems that this command only works for multiple models which are solved in the same file and based on the same CAD model? Please correct me if I am wrong.
You're right, you'd have to do run all on multiple files at the same time.
Task scheduler is a better fit for your need.
And submit an enhancement request for more functionality.
I saw that other post as well, but the run all option wont work for me as it runs them all simultaneously. I have 12 Simulations that need to be direct sparse and each have 1.5-2 million DOF (Taking about 15 Gb of RAM) So i need to run just one at a time.
If a macro via custom task scheduler is the only way, could you help me out with finding something that could get it done?
Thank you very much for the help!
did you try the update simulation option in the task scheduler?
Thanks for the quick reply!
I did, it seems that that just goes through and "updates all components" for all simulations of a part/assembly . i.e. it doesn't actually run anything.
I think it can be done via the "run custom task" but I am too much of a coding novice to start from scratch.
Thank you for the help!
are you using update simulation or update file?
here is from the help
You can schedule tasks to update the SOLIDWORKS Simulation analysis in SOLIDWORKS part and assembly documents. You can update individual files or all files of a specified type within a folder.
I was using update simulation. I believe it is just doing this operation from the simulation drop down.
"Update all component" is a different story.
"update simulation" is in the Task Scheduler utility.
Yes, I understand. I am saying that the "update simulation" task scheduler utility is simply going through the models and performing the "update all components" option in the simulation drop down.
I ran a test where I made a simplified model with two studies. Then went to the task scheduler and told it to "update simulations" for that part. this task did not run any studies. So, I am assuming that it is just going through and updating all components in the simulation.
have you gotten the "update simulation" to work?
Thanks for the response!
I have just tried and...
2015 works flawlessly, out of the box.
2014 opens the model but does nothing more.
I am using 2014 and that is my same result.
Awesome that it is already incorporated into 2015! I will have to update and give it a try,
Thanks for the help and time
i'd also recommend reporting to your reseller if it isn't working in 2014, at least then it can be documented
