Has anyone tried modelling a formed grille (as in speaker grille) using a forming tool? I have no such luck. The hole pattern did not come out after inserting the forming tool.
Try using an indent or deform feature.
Tried indent - didn't work. The hole pattern did not carry over. Tried deform - got wierd result. Works with curve driven pattern but it's a long series of steps. There must be a shorter way to do this.
OK, how about using a cosmetic pattern or a mesh appearance instead of modeling individual parts of the grill. That will also produce a much smaller file footprint and better performance.
Nope not if you need the holes thru.
you can use a appearance of the honey comb to make it look like you want. but because SW cannot deform how the cutouts would really bend is why you'll have to fudge other ways.
The closest I've got to that was to split the face of a form tool and change the color of the parts I wanted pierced to red. It was very tedious.
Here is a, very simple, quick example.
Formed with this form tool.
Read up on making form tools. As you can imagine getting the cutout shapes to look right as they wrap over the curved edge takes some fiddling. I recall it was also hard to get everything stay the right color.
