    Please suggest on Contacts to be given.

      I have 2 components held together by 0.5" pins. i.e pin has interference fit on componant and sliding fit on the other. Please suggest the contacts to be used between the pin and the componants.


      Presently i'm modelling the pin and holes in the component as per required fit dimensions and using no penetration contacts between the pin and componants in the assembly for both interference fit and sliding fit.


      Another approach followed is I make the pin and hole the same size (for both sliding fit and interference fit) give bonded contacts between the pin and components.


      I have modeled the pin and used it for FEA as i require the stresses and displacement plot for the pins also.


      Kindly advise as i'm using these pins to restrict displacement of the component under the action of load.

          on the interference side you need a shrink fit because of the overlap. make sure to check the rules about that in the help.


          on the sliding side, no penetration contact.


          but you should ask yourself what you're trying to learn in the analysis. a bonded contact on the interference side and bonded contact on the sliding side might be enough depending on the loading condition. (ie not a lot of relative displacement between the components) if you can eliminate the shrink and the no penetration, you'll save yourself computation time. even better, if you can eliminate meshing the pin by using a virtual pin, you'll be even further ahead.


          all comes down to how the system behaves and what you want to learn.
