We are using solidworks 2009 with sp1(100 user license). The license file is in the server with dongel. Now we want to change the server with new server without dongel.
I came to know for solidworks dongel is not required . I tried removing the dongel from the current(old) server, once you remove the dongel solidworks not working.
Any suggestions.

Eliminates the need for dongles. However, if you run previous versions of SolidWorks products that do not use activation, you need to retain the dongle.
Bit of a confusing help file! i think that is referring to standalone activations. Network License activation In 2010 onwards do support earlier versions, back as far as 2004. I had that as a bit of a stinker of a question in my yearly technician exam update i believe!
But well if they are using 2009 and want to move servers they will have to either move the dongle or download 2009 SP4 or higher of the license administrator when the option to do activation was added.
Or If you are already using activaiton then it must be transferred from the old server and activated on the new one (license administration tab -> Modify)

I hope you kept good relations with your VAR, because you will probably need to talk with them to work out what you can do. I don't remember when the switch was made to not requiring a dongle, but I assume, since you have a dongle, that it was after 2009. My guess is that you are stuck; the version you are running requires a dongle. Your choices would be to update to a later version that doesn't require a dongle or switch to a server that allows a dongle. But I know almost nothing about the subject, so I'm quite likely wrong.
