Is there a way to keep the "description" property from automatically populating the sheet metal cut list properties list?
Yes, you can create a custom weldment cut list template that doesn't include the description property. You will save the weldment cut list template in a place of your choosing then go to tools/options/system options/file locations - show folders for weldment cut list templates, select add and browse to the location where you have saved your template.
Are you referring to the cut list table that would go on the drawing (similar to a BOM)?
I'm trying to remove the "description" field from the the cut list component properties in the model itself...
In the sheet metal part model, RMB "Cut-List-Item1" > Properties
Not referring to the drawnig.
I did as you suggested, but the "description" came back.
First I edited the list and deleted "description." Then, deleted the cut list from the model and updated it again. Checked properties, and it's baaaack...
I also just tried creating a new sheet metal part (after deleting "description" from the list) and when I updated the cut list and checked the properties, "description" is showing again...
These sheet metal properties seem like they're hard coded in somewhere. I've not been able to find anything that says what's driving them, or where to change them. My VAR has checked into it a bit and pretty much told me they are what they are. I was hoping someone out here would have some other ideas.
There's one more area in the file locations. Open the weldment property file. It's a text file. Remove "description" and save.
"Description" is not in that list either.
I think this is the file that gets updated when you do the "Edit List" function...
Why do you care that the property exists all the time? you can ignore it, you don't have to use it anywhere.
Or I haven't understand your problem.
I'm afraid that I may not have given the "whole story" with regards to this problem as it is a pretty lengthy (and a bit confusing) back story.
This property is giving me problems because of the way that our PDM system (DBWorks) manages the sheet metal part cut list records.
I'm currently testing SolidWorks 2013 with DBWorks R13.
Our current working environment is SolidWorks 2010 SP5.0 / DBWorks R11.
In our current working environment we just delete the cut list out of the sheet metal parts as it contains no valuable information for us.
In the newer versions of SolidWorks, the cut list is automatically populated with many valuable properties (in particular the "bounding box area") that we'd like to use to update raw material requirements in DBWorks.
We have the cut list "description" mapped to the DBWorks data card "description" for structural weldment cut lists. By continuing with this mapping (that we've come accustomed to over the last 5 years of use) the auto-populating sheet metal cut list "description" property is overwriting the component descriptions that I put on the DBWorks data card
I have an idea or two for how to work around this issue, but I'm trying to keep it from getting too involved. Dealing with detailing sheet metal parts and getting DXFs saved off for water-jetting is already a pretty tedious process and I'd like to not add too much more to it for the rest of my guys.
did you get answer to this problem, i have it too ???
The only way to get rid of the property is to delete it using API calls.
