Yes make all the parts seprate is the best, BUT..... there is always a but
now you can make this in an assembly using the top down process, if you need thing to change together by using relations from one part to the other.
or you can even build multiple bodies in a part file and then save those out as seprate parts at a later date.
of course that is all up to you.
simplest is make seprate parts
harder is top down parts using an assembly with external relations
hardest is multiple bodies in a part file.

Would I be best creating circles for the grip section then lofting them?.
Im finding the transition fron the flat part of the gun to where the grip goes down hard to model
or a revolve cut
