Finding volume of fluid surrounding components.

I have an assembly with several irregular shaped parts protruding outside and within a closed case. I want to determine the volume of fluid needed to fill the voids surrounding the portions of components within the case.  I know I can determine the volume of the case and of the individual components but to be accurate I will need to trim each component at the walls.  If this was a multi body part and not an assembly I could use combine to subtract the components out of the fluid volume.  I know I can join the components to one part to make a multibody part but getting the parts to the correct location within a multibody part is not done in the same way as in an assembly.

I am open for suggestions.
