I have to create a single assemby using one main part and then inserting multiple versions of the same part. Is there a way to create a single assembly with multiple configurations by using replace part so i don't have to add mates to multiple part files?

Then I'm not aware of any way to do what you want, but someone else might. It would have been easy if it was multiple configurations of the same part.

So you basically want to insert different parts multiple times and apply the same set of mates to them? Can you post an image of the basic part in question and what mate(s) you are doing?

Correct, I am using concentric to mate the round parts to main, and then using coincident for the planes. All parts that are being inserted were created by save as copy. The parts that are being inserted have the same round shape. But each part is different in length, diameter, rib placement, and other various extrudes, and cut extrudes.
you could use "Multiple Mate Mode" and get them all done within a few seconds probably

I think that may be the only way.
Start an assembly, insert one of the parts. Create reference geometry(planes/axis/point/etc) in the assembly using the part. Insert the rest of the parts, but only mate to the newly created reference geometry.
Insert this sub-assembly into the main assembly, mating only to the created reference geometry. (in the sub-assembly to the main assembly and parts therein)
