    SolidWorks 2013 & Microsoft Office 2013

    Oliver Smith

      Hi all,

Just thought I'd share a few words of wisdom with the online community.

I work on the support line at Solid Solutions, a SolidWorks Reseller in the UK and I do come across a few issues that can be overcome, so I hope this comes in handy to some.

Microsoft office 2013 is not supported in SolidWorks 2013, however it will be supported in 2014.

I’ve found two issues with Microsoft office 2013 with SolidWorks 2013, one is that the user is unable to use equation - they get a ‘syntax error’ whenever they try to use/input any value in the equations window. Two, if the user tries to access the macro commands under Tools> Macros then SolidWorks will crash with an ‘error encountered’. The only way around both of these (that I have found) would be to uninstalled Office 2013 and SolidWorks and then reinstall SolidWorks.

I've been having the same above 2 issues. I will be estatic when they are fixed.

          Equation Work Around

The equations are a little buggy.  What works for me is an initial sketch, the equations work just fine. Once the feature is made and I go back to edit it, the equation doesn't work by adding the second half of the equation (+ X.XX) to the end.  If you retype the whole equation (X + X.XX) it does work.  This works with both the feature and the sketch.

Mate distances I can't get an equation to work either.  The only other option is either write your equations out on the old pencil and paper (along with using your brain) or the high-tech calculator.

The Macro thing I haven't figured out yet.  I guess I'll have to wait a couple of months and update and see if it works.

I'm kind of glad to know it's not just me having these issues.

This only happens if Office 2013 is installed after SW2013.

Uninstalling and reinstalling SW fixes this issue.
