Does anyone know how to create a new folder in the component classification list?
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, you can't modify component classifications through the frontend of the software (which is really annoying). It's possible to do if you tear into the SQL server, but I'm almost certain this wouldn't be recommended.
I raised this question with our local resellers electrical support guy and was told the same thing, that it wasn't possible.
Apparently the reason is that the electrical rule checking applied to schematics is based on this classification system. For instance for circuit breakers the software requires you have a 'base' part when adding auxilliaries.
The rules are different depending on the classification and sort of bypassed when using the black box classification.
I'm guessing if you added new classifications you would also need to add schematic checking rules or risk breaking something.
This needs to be fixed. In North America, at least in heavy industry, we use PE (phoeye), PX (proximity sensor), PB (push button)...etc device designation. Not single customer wants to see B or S for everything...
In the properties of symbols and of parts you can enter the root mark you prefer. When you insert a symbol or part in your project then that root mark will be used instead of the one supplied by the classification. Your symbol or part will still be associated with the "proper" classification so the rule checking still works.
Do you mean manually modify the root mark?
It would work if you add couple custom parts, but not for every part.
Yes, manually, in the library. You would have to do it the first time you use a part. I do not use thousands of different parts, I do it just when I first use one and I get the output I want. The next time I use it it is already changed. Its not ideal but it works.
I think I am doing something wrong here. I go to Manufacturer Parts Manager, select part, properties, change root mark to "something", OK,Close. Then go insert part, but it still puts "S" for the pushbutton I just modified to display "PB".
I got it, I was supposed to update root mark in Symbol manager. Are you positive it does not affect the error checking?
I have not been using SWE long enough to be absolutely positive but I am pretty sure because you are still preserving your link to the class.
Me either, I don't even know what kind of errors it is checking for.
