I have been given green light to order a new Dell computer.
I currently use SW2006 (soon to switch to 2007), NX4, Catia V5, and all AutoDesk products (aarrgghh)....my assemblies can run up to 500 meg and contain up to 1000 parts. I deal with car frame assemblies so the parts have alot of surface data. I dont use rendering but have started to look at FEA's.
Due to the multiple systems I am constantly translating between them depending on customers.
System recommendations?
Probably will have this computer up to 2 years.
Thank you.

Good
Dell 390, XP64, 4GB RAM, X6800 or QX 6700 CPU, 1 250GB 7200 prm + 1 160GB-10k rpm HDD, FX3450
Better
Dell 490, XP64, 8-16GB RAM, 1-2 Xeon 5160 CPU, 1 250GB 7200 prm + 1-2 160GB-10k rpm HDD, FX-3450 or FX4500 (would support multi-apps running at the same time)
Best
Dell 690 w/1kps, 8-16GB RAM, 2 Xeon 5160 CPU, 1 250GB 7200 rpm + 2-3 160GB 10k rpm HDD, 2x FX4500 graphics
NX4 is one of the few "professional" apps that actually takes advantage of dual SLI graphics cards
