Can anyone help me to how to render a shaded thread?
you have to either apply a displacement map under the surface finishes in the material tabs or physically model it in.
there is a thread on here where someone did it with a displacement map on external threads. i just cant find it.
I do not remember where to find the appearnce dialog that allows you to select an appropriate bump map or normal map. It is very hard to find information on creating normal maps. I look forward to the answer.

edit the appearance then the advanced tab surface finish change it to from file
