Centre point selection when creating mates

I'm currently creating mates on an assembly and I want to make the 'right plane' run through the centre of the 3 holes in the attached picture. However when I try to select the centre of 1 of the 3 holes it picks up the cente point of the bottom face.

In the attached photo you can see I have already selected the 'right plane' and my cursor (although not shown) is hovering over the edge of the middle hole, yet there is a node appearing at the centre of the bottom face (bottom face is round)

Everything else in the assembly is contrained.

I know the mate can be made because I can physically rotate the assembly so that the holes line up with the plane.

How do I select the centre of one of these 3 holes to line it up with the plane?

Thank you
