Is it possible to model a projectile piercing a target made of a different material using a drop test. If so how can you make the target stationary while the projectile moves.
This is best for the simulation forum. Drop test won't work because it is for a component or assembly and ground, not 2 components. You'd have to look at linear dynamic time history or nonlinear dynamic in simulation premium. Note, none of these will show any type of material tearing, the stress will have to tell you this or you will have to look for a different sim tool.
In Motion Study assemblies, all Fixed bodies are stationary.
However, MS has no tool for simulating penetration, and the Contact tool will fail at ballistic levels of energy and speed. The projectile will go straight thru.
Good call. I should have been more specific, motion won't solve this because it is rigid bodies only. You might be able to tell something from contact forces, but sim prem nonlinear dynamic is as close as we can get.
