Welcome to the forum. I'm not a hardware expert by any stretch of the imagination, but it sounds like you may have an issue with your graphics card. Here is another discussion that may help: https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/66568?tstart=60. If this doesn't help, can you post your computer info ( OS, RAM, graphics card, etc.)?
Also, here is some information put together by one of the leading contributors to the forum that is very helpful. You might want to take a look if you get a chance: https://forum.solidworks.com/thread/39793
Thanks for the quick response Glenn!
I checked the driver against Solidworks database, and its a newer version (126.96.36.199) compared to the solidworks approved (188.8.131.5238). Unfortunately I cannot revert to the old driver due to IT policy.
I changed up the 3D settings to minimal (turned off antialiasing, Triple buffering, vertical sync, ambient occlusion, etc.) and it still doesn't seem to make a difference. Performance is great, the model just doesn't show up unless I rotate or select a face.
Intel Xeon W5580 (3.2GHz)
Windows 7 x64
Nvidia Quadro FX5800
I get this quite often, sometimes for no apparent reason. SW works fine for even weeks, then one day, even working with a small, non-rendered model, it does as you've said. I've got the most recent driver updates (NVIDIA Quardo 4000) too.
I have a similar periodic issue with property manager dialogs. They are visible only when the cursor is over them.
I am waiting for the issue to go away as mysteriously as it came.
I have changed nothing since 2009.
