Hi
can i change the yeild trength of a material already put in by solidworks. As i was looking at the different materials i noticed that the S355 materials under Solidworks DIN Materials > Structual, has a yeild strength of 275Mpa. If im right in saying, the 355 states the minimum yeild strength in Mpa? Am i right in saying that the S355J2G3 should have a miniumum yeild strength of 355Mpa instead of 275Mpa?
Just thought that would give different results to what it should be.
Thanks
You can't change the default material properties however you can create a custom material based off this material and change the yield strength. The S355 standard does imply a nominal minimum yield of 355Mpa however the material spec has some variation of the yield based on the thickness (see link below). You should contact a local supplier for the material and verify the properties for the thickness you are using and then create a custom material in Solidworks.
