Start a new 3d sketch and then use convert entities tool.
Good idea. Convert entities would work fine in a 3D Sketch.
1. Open a 3D Sketch
2. Select edges or faces or features
3. Convert entities
Actually all of the answers are correct for a 3D sketch created exactly along the edge selected. You may want to do more, however.
I normally then use 3d splines to connect the ends of such projected curves with the tangent property at the connection points to create smooth transistions. If I need a smooth continuous curve I'll use a spline fit of all of the segments with the consume checkbox marked to change the original segments into construction lines.
Often you will want to extract the 3d edge onto a 2D sketch. To do this simply create a reference plane with the surface oriented correctly with respect to the edge you are trying to capture. Select some edges then use convert entities to project the curve. You can then select other edges and repeat as necessary. Here too you can use all of the line segment types to connect the projected segments.
Hey everyone, thanks for the help! All of the above solutions worked great and saved me heaps of time. Thanks again!
