Is there a way to automatically update the BOM quantities, when I modify the assembly quantity, in the assembly drawing?
Maybe by editing the 'Quantity' values in the BOM, by using a kind of formula? - I can't find a way to do this.
I'm not a big user of BOMs, but I suspect something is not right with they way your have your options set. The BOM quantity in the drawing should reflect the number of parts in the assembly.
I'm not sure what you mean by "when I modify the assembly quantity". If you mean that you are adding or removing components from the assembly, then Jerry is right that the BOM in the drawing should automatically update. If that is not what you mean then please explain further.
I'll try to explain again:
My BOM is OK, it is connected to the assembly and reflects all the parts in it.
What I need is a way to connect the quantities of the parts to the quantity of the assembly.
I want to use custom-property, in the drawing or in the assembly, called "Qty", that can be set to the number of assemblies, required for production. If that property is connected to the BOM (in a new column, that use a formula), than I can get the total number of parts, as defined here: "quantity of this part in the assembly" multiply by "number of assemblies to produce".
That function is not normally done with a print. The print should say what you need to make a single unit of the assembly it depicts. Usually a shop floor order is generated by some other system to tell the floor how many to make and handles the accounting.
The only way I know of to force Solid Works to generate that data is to make an empty assembly and drop multiple copies of your top assembly in to it. Then generate a "Parts only" BOM. This method will not tell you how many of a given part are in which subassembly, but it will give the total number of each part to make the desired number of top assemblies.
Rafi, you might be able to do something similar by creating a column in your BOM with a formula to multiply the quantity by a specific ammount and maybe hide the existing quantity column.
