Good evening. I have been trying for a while but has been unsuccessful in trimming the stiffeners in the cylinders. I also need some help mating the platform and the jacket together. Really appreciate it.
Extrude cut might be the simpler solution in the case-since you can apply it to multiple bodies. What effect that will have on your cut-list (assuming you're using one) I can't predict.
I've downloaded your files and am checking them out now.
Let's see a couple of screen captures of the parts you want to trim and mate. I usually monitor the forums while I'm waiting for models to load and save so I can't quickly download and open parts, but if I got a look at the situation, I could probably offer some help.
I am trying to trim away the stiffeners that is inside of the cylinder. I have tried trim/extend but failed. Extrude cut might work but i dont know how it works.
I played around with your part and managed to trim out the interior stiffeners.
The trick is to specify the outside face of the cyllinder as the trim face, specify the bodies to keep or discard by clicking their individual tags and uncheck the 'allow extension' check mark in the trim property manager.
I've attached a modified version of your file. I added the last four features.
Trim/Extend3 shows how to clear out the interior ribs using the outer surface.
trim/extend6 and trimExtend7 show how to trim the stiffeners to the inner and outer walls of a cylinder.
Have a look at that and let me know if you have questions.
Thank you very much. I manage to trim away all the necessary part. Can you do me one last favour to help me mate the platform and jacket. I have created 3 planes on both the jacket and platform but i always fail at the mating part.
Qi, I'm not sure how the components are supposed to go together.
The cylinders on the platform don't precisely match up with the cylinders on the tower.
I was able to get this result using the sketch geometry that you used to lay the parts out.
but when you section the view, you can see that the cylinders don't match orientation or position.
How are the two parts intended to fit together?
the cylinder on the platform is intended to slot into the piles of the jacket. Hmm.
I must have gotten the angle of the platform cylinder wrongly. How bout this one. I changed the angle.
Maybe it would be better if you did this as a single part file. Insert the jacket into the platform as a derived part, use the move/copy body tool to locate and constrain it on the platform and then build your cylinders up from it.
Thanks alot. Manage to mate them after adjusting the angle. Thank you very much for ur time and advice.
