Files and resources to move to faster drives

Question asked by Peter Medina on Mar 14, 2013

In an effort to try to speed up any system on SWX it would be great to have a list of the temp files, resources, scratch files etc. that we can identify and perhaps move to faster media.  For example, someone might have a small SSD as a second drive to speed up the system, or perhaps a Ramdisk setup.  If we can identify which resources can be moved to these faster media, it might just get us all faster solve times and even higher CPU utilization on multi-core machines.  Many of the Adobe video editing and photo programs use temp files and scratch disks that benefit greatly from faster media.  It would be great if we can identify these same types of files in SWX.  I can update this first post as the answers come in.

General Solidworks modeling -

  • Can the file be moved?
  • If the file/resource is moved can SWX be pointed to the new location to use it?

Simulation -

  • Can the file be moved?
  • If the file/resource is moved can SWX be pointed to the new location to use it?

Photoview 360 Rendering -
